Everyday Excitement: The Thrilling World of Public Relations and AI

Bright and early, my day in the thrilling world of Public Relations begins, each task carefully planned and arranged in my calendar. Today, I'm taking you on a special journey from dawn till dusk, showcasing how various tasks are fine-tuned with the latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. We'll explore my day in segments—morning, lunch, and afternoon—to highlight how AI revolutionizes our PR endeavors.

Morning: Jumpstarting the Day with Precision

Client #1’s Member Directory

My day starts with rebuilding a member directory for a client’s revamped website.

The current directory is fairly bare-bones with limited information on 150 local businesses. It would probably take about 20 hours to rebuild this manually. With AI on my side, it takes about four.

  • It’s All About the Prompts. I start with one business as a test. With AI it is all about having the right prompts and starting small. For this project, I worked with Copy.AI as it has a live internet connection. Using my test business, I developed a prompt to generate a two-sentence description and a correctly formatted listing with Name, URL (embedded in the Name), description, address, and telephone. I also asked it to provide a URL to the logo (if available.)
  • Batch Processing. AI is not infallible as we know and there is a limit to the amount of context it understands from prior conversations or assignments. I find it best to batch-process projects like this in groups of 20 or so. As the AI continues to shoot out the listings, I am saving them in Copy.AI (one of the benefits is having a save function in an editing window.) With each batch, I test the results by visiting the URL, ensuring the description and address are correct, etc. This is important because there is about a 5% fail rate.
  • Uploading. Once the research is complete and I’ve checked the results and made corrections, I begin to cut & paste the listings into the client’s website. This gives me an opportunity to do final edits and ensure formatting is consistent.
  • Final Touches. Not all businesses have logos and not all logos are of high quality. This requires some manual research to find the logo. With businesses without logos, we turned to Canva and created a generic placeholder logo for each business using similar colors for consistency.
  • Client Approval. Before going live, I gave the client a demonstration of the new directory along with access to the test server. We also informed each business of the updated directory allowing them to check their listing and request changes.

Lunch: Time for Reflection & Strategy
Like most of us, I eat lunch right at my desk  and check my To Do list, and my team's progress on other projects, and peruse the three Reddit channels that I am addicted to (startups, marketing, and PR.)
  • Reflect & Plan. I assess the morning's achievements and sketch the afternoon’s tasks. This breather is crucial for staying sharp and effective. I try to actively communicate with my team remotely via Asana and Google Chat and it is so helpful in managing tasks and making sure they are completed in a timely manner.
  • Keeping Up to Date. I dedicate a portion of my lunch break to keeping up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI and PR. Staying informed is crucial in our fast-paced industry. Essentially, Reddit is my go-to source. It's a valuable platform for exploring marketing updates, strategies, and technological progress, making it an ideal place for www.reddit.comprofessional growth.

Afternoon: Unleashing Creativity & Strategic Thinking
Crafting Press Releases for Client #2

After lunch, I shift my focus to a longstanding client who requires a media advisory and a press release for an upcoming event. This client is focused on new verticals so I turn to Muckrack to develop a media list.

I again turn to Copy.AI to develop the media advisory. This platform already has my saved media advisory format saved so I can easily feed the event’s information into the system and have the media advisory created. Once I’ve saved the output to MS Word, I do an edit check and run Grammarly.

For the press release, I tend to personally take charge and only use AI to generate placeholder quotes. But I do borrow language from the media advisory to maintain consistency and not reinvent the wheel.

When everything is set, I then proceed to the next client.

For Client #3: Developing Engaging, SEO-Friendly Content
One of my afternoon projects is to edit and approve a Client blog. My team and I harness the capabilities of advanced tools such as SEMRush, Copy.ai, and ChatGPT to craft blogs that are not only engaging but also finely tuned for search engine optimization.

I meticulously review the initial drafts produced by the team, providing feedback and suggesting revisions. This collaborative effort ensures that our final content is not just rich in keywords for SEO purposes, but also resonates meaningfully with our audience, striking the perfect balance between technical optimization and reader engagement.

For Client #4: Social Media Content Calendar
On this particular day, I need to do an in-depth analysis of our client’s social media strategies, focusing on the campaigns developed by our team. We heavily utilize tools like Canva to transform ideas into visually stunning and persuasive social media posts and graphics tailored for the client.

This process goes beyond mere aesthetics; it's about shaping messages that are in sync with the client's SEO strategies and brand messaging. We leverage ChatGPT's advanced capabilities to meticulously research and identify popular social media holidays, ensuring our client's content calendar is both relevant and engaging, perfectly aligning with their brand messaging and SEO strategies.

By the end of this review, the client's content is not just primed for posting but is also finely tuned to engage their audience and boost their online presence, paving the way for the successful rollout of their meticulously planned social media campaigns.

Final Project: Prospect Audit & Scope
In addition to these tasks, an essential part of my role involves conducting prospect research and audits for potential clients.

Our approach begins with a detailed audit, using a client-specific shared document as a central hub for findings and recommendations. In the Website SEO Audit, we assess key elements like keyword usage and site structure to identify optimization areas. To conduct our audits, we utilize AI tools such as SEMRush, Google Analytics, and even Ahrefs.

Concurrently, our Social Media Audit evaluates content quality and engagement rates to enhance social media impact in line with the client's brand goals.

Based on these audits, we propose actionable recommendations to elevate the client's online presence. This includes strategies for website optimization and social media engagement, aimed at rectifying weaknesses and leveraging opportunities to boost their digital footprint effectively.
